It wasn't all that often that in a normal school one would find the headmaster casually strolling the grounds. Nor was it common for any headmaster of anything to be so young. Aura Academy had finally been built, a safe haven and place where those with supernatural abilities could be...almost normal. Sometimes it felt like only yesterday Julian was a little boy dreaming about the day he would be able to give others a place where they could act like themselves and not hide who they were. Some people thought that those with expanded auras were evil...because they were different they couldn't be human anymore. In Julian's experience, sometimes they were more human than the norm. Everyone had an aura, some just had...bigger ones. There was evil in every part of the world, was it fair to focus on those who used their power to show it?
Ah...no. That's not what he was here to focus on. Rather the opposite. Julian was many things, but still quite young. Mingling with some of the students usually helped him remember that. Maybe there would be somebody close by to talk to?

Sorren walked rather calmly into the courtyard, spotting a kid not much older than himself. This dweeb would have to do, since he had no idea where the hospital wing was... Was there a hospital wing? Glyph made a gleep sound at him, offering to go find it. Sorren touched the rune on his wrist. No, it's okay, he told the dragon silently. That was annoying, having to touch the rune every time he wanted to speak to his companion in silence. If he hadn't been interrupted earlier, he might have made some headway... Oh. Right. The girl, Yuuka. "Hey, you," Sorren called. "Uh, there's someone down by the river who needs help, she sprained her ankle and can't walk. Is there a doctor here or...?" Sorren shrugged, and Glyph flew over to circle the kid's head, nearly dive-bombing him. "Get back here, Glyph," Sorren called quickly. No need to pick a fight. Well, not yet. Julian looked up to find another boy walking around with a curious....dragon...robot...thing? What was it? Maybe the kid had caught him staring, because after a moment he heard Sorren calling him.
"Hmm?" he asked, snapping back to reality before he realized what he had said. "Oh! Oh my god! Uh, we have a hospital wing nearby, I can help you if you need it-" He ducked when the mechanical creature flew closer to him, not exactly enthusiastic about getting smacked on the head. It hurt enough when Klaus had iced the floor around him and he slipped...oh, never mind that! Somebody was hurt!
"So his name is Glyph?" Julian asked, standing up straight again. He started heading over to where the other kid was standing. "He's pretty cool...it's a boy...right? Anyway, I'm Julian."

"Glyph is... sort of an it," Sorren said. "But he doesn't like being referred to as female." He shrugged and didn't offer his name. "So, you can go and help what's-her-name, right?" Sorren asked, blank-faced except for slight annoyance. He didn't want any part in rescuing the girl, but it wouldn't be right to leave her without any help. Glyph turned in the air and chattered at him, landing on Sorren's head. "Wha- oh. Wait! I can, uh, lead you to her. The girl, Yuuka?" Sorren walked over to the entrance of the courtyard. "But I just want to get back out to the river, unless you bring someone else, you're on your own getting her back."
[Sorry Sorren in such an antisocial butt...]

(I have too many antisocial butts they are just too much fun tho)
"Yeah, I can help," he nodded. "I know my way around here pretty well..." It would be embarrassing if he didn't...he had designed quite a bit of it, after all...
His smile faded a bit as Sorren said he wouldn't help. Actually at this point it had become more of a disappointed frown. He followed Sorren quietly for a moment, but that wasn't going to last long. Julian was never one for silence.
"So you're not going to help?" he asked. "That's kind of rude. But fine. I can get her back by myself, it's just going to be harder for both of us." There was always the option of saying, I am the headmaster and you should do what I say, but he didn't want to abuse his power for something that he could handle on his own anyway.
(Julian right here is one of my few nicer characters. Woohoo Julian!)

Sorren shrugged. "I've been called rude before. I don't care. I'm not fond of other people. Or conversation," he said emphatically. With that, he shut his mouth and kept walking at his same unhurried pace.

"So I gathered," Julian huffed. This one's aura was harder to read, and perhaps that was part of why Julian found himself acting a little more short with him. He was more guarded about his aura and personality. Julian liked knowing who he was dealing with, what kind of person they were, when he was going too far with a joke, and it was too hard to tell with...wait.
"Hey, you never told me your name," Julian complained. "You got one, tough guy? How about powers? We have time to walk, how about you spill?"

"How 'bout I don't," Sorren snarled, tiny crackles of electricity beginning to dance in his hair, "And you just butt out of my business, help the girl back to the Academy, and hope we never cross paths again. Eh, tough guy??" Sorren clenched his fists, trying to get the lightning to stay back from his palms. He didn't like this nerd's tone. Older though Julian may be, Sorren had lived on his own most of his life, and knew how to take care of himself. If it came to a fight, Sorren would not hesitate to deliver a stunning bolt of electricity right to Julian's face. Glyph took off from his shoulder, screeching and chattering, and flapped quickly through the air, tail bulb crackling and sparking. The little mechanical golem seemed as agitated as he was, which Sorren noted in the back of his mind as a sign of their bond getting stronger. "Easy, Glyph," he breathed, picking up his pace towards the river.
[Should we move this post to the River section once we get to where Yuuka is sitting?]

(Again, late reply, I had one, Proboards messed up, lost it and my motivation. BLEH.)
Julian backed up a bit as Sorren lashed out, raising his hands to show he meant no harm. "Woah, calm down," he said, trying to keep his voice calm. While it wasn't exactly good that Sorren had flared up, it had given Julian a good look at his aura, which he noted for the future was more volatile and powerful than some others. This wasn't somebody he really wanted to test. There was always a chance he would be able to diffuse the effects of Sorren's powers on him if the other attacked him, but that was only if he calibrated his own aura just right. He knew he could do that, but it was too difficult now to be using the skill left and right.
Lesson learned. Don't piss off lightning-boy. Or, apparently, his little friend. Julian was making great friends with the students. One tried to freeze him, one was trying to shove lightning in his face.
"You're going to have to trust somebody eventually," Julian mentioned, lowering his hands and running up to where Sorren was. "But, until then, I need something to call you. I could give you a nickname but we have established you don't like those."
(I guess so, it would probably be easier to add her in a new thread.)

"You don't have to call me anything," Sorren spat. "And I don't see how trusting people is going to help me anytime soon. I'm fine without anyone else!" He knew that sounded lame, but it was true. How many years he'd survived on his own was proof enough. "I don't need anyone else," he muttered to himself, turning away from Julian and walking faster. Glyph stopped his own attack and came to perch on Sorren's shoulder, crooning into his ear and softly rearranging his four wings. [Damn my concise writing ]

"Sparky it is," Julian decided cheerfully, pretending that he was oblivious to Sorren's rather harsh tone of voice. That attitude really wasn't going to get him anywhere here. Besides, living on your own wasn't all that uncommon. This place was supposed to be a safehouse (among other things) for those with enhanced auras, many of which had been forced to live on the streets before.
"Okay, well, if you don't need anyone else, why do you have Glyph?" he asked, while still keeping pace with Sorren. "And why'd you come here? I mean, yeah, I guess there's the whole learn all your powers thing, but that's not the only reason is it? And before you go on with the whole, I'm a loner and a big boy who can do everything by myself and I don't need anyone thing again, remember that you aren't the only one who's lived on your own. A lot of us have." Julian could easily remember his own time wandering by himself.
"And what's wrong with giving people a chance once in a while, Sparky? Don't knock it till you've tried it! Maybe you'll find somebody who tolerates your bad attitude enough to hang out with you." Oh, ouch, that wasn't necessary.

"You wanna know why I'm here?" Sorren wheeled around to face Julian, sparks flying off his hair and hands. "I'm here because I'm tired of being hunted like a damn animal! I heard about this place and thought it might be nice to not worry about being shot in the back! I didn't come here for friendship or teaching, I came here because I don't want to die!!" Sorren turned and stalked off in the direction of the river again, but Glyph launched off his shoulder and flew at Julian, wings slapping at his face and tail bulb throwing small bolts of electricity everywhere. "And don't call me Sparky!" Sorren yelled over his shoulder.
